www.forestersfriends.co.uk (the 'Website') is the social networking site for The Ancient Order of Foresters Friendly Society Limited ('we', 'us' or 'our') a friendly society incorporated and registered in England and Wales with friendly society number 511F whose registered office is at 29-33 Shirley Road, Southampton, Hampshire, SO15 3EW.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and this privacy policy ('Privacy Policy') sets out our privacy practices. Please take the time to review this Privacy Policy carefully, as (along with our Terms of Use) it tells you how your personal information will be treated by us. By using the Website you unconditionally agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy.

For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, we are the data controller.

What information do we collect?

We may collect and process the following information about you:

  • information supplied by you on the Website, including but not limited to when you become a registered member (a 'Foresters Friend'), take part in any of our surveys, polls or product research or enter a promotion or competition on the Website;
  • information supplied by you, as a Foresters Friend, including all emails, comments, discussion posts, blogs, news postings, information, document, photographs and other visual images, files and other material that you post to the Website or provide to us via the Website;
  • communications you send to us, for example to report a problem with or submit a comment regarding the Website; and
  • details of your visits to the Website, including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data and the resources that you access.

Automated information collection - Log files/IP addresses

When you visit our Website, we automatically log information about your computer including, where available, your IP address (the unique address which identifies your computer on the internet), operating system and browser type. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.

We use this information to help us administer the Website and to collect broad demographic information for aggregated use.

Cookies

We may obtain information about your general internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer.

This information facilitates your use of our Website, and helps us to provide you with the best level of service. Depending on whether or not you are a Foresters Friend, we use information held about you in order to:

  • create and administer your Foresters Friend account and Foresters Friend homepage;
  • automatically notify you each time another community member comments on content or on posts added by you to the Website;
  • administer mywebclub incentives;
  • ensure that content from the Website is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
  • allow you to participate in any interactive features of the Website and/or our services, when you choose to do so;
  • weight the results of surveys, to ensure representativeness;
  • customise and improve the service we provide to you and notify you of any changes to this service;
  • verify your identity; and
  • help us plan other promotional campaigns.

Disclosing your information to others

We may disclose your personal information to third parties:

  • in the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets;
  • if we or substantially all of our assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by us about our customers will be one of the transferred assets; or

We may, from time to time, supply the owners or operators of third party sites, from which it is possible to link to our Website, with information relating to the number of community members linking to our Website from their sites. You cannot be identified from this information.

We will share aggregate anonymous information relating to the overall results of our surveys or studies with our client business partners. You cannot be identified from this information.

Foresters Friends pages

When you register as a Forester Friend you will have the option of determining whether your profile (which does not include your personal information) and Contributions are accessible by the general public, other Foresters Friends or just Foresters Friends who you have added as your friends.

Security

We have implemented technology and policies to help safeguard your privacy from unauthorised access and improper use. We will continue to update these measures as new technology becomes available.

Transferring your personal information outside the European Economic Area

The data that we collect from you is processed by staff who work either for us or one of our group companies or for one of our service providers. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the provision of support services.

Your data may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (EEA). It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing and/or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy

From time to time we will send registered members of the Website information on survey results, marketing e-mails and other related information. If you do not wish to receive such communications, you should send an email with the subject heading 'unsubscribe' to administrator@forestersfriendlysociety.co.uk.

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with that Act. Any access request may be subject to a fee not exceeding £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.

We aim to keep our information about you as accurate as possible. If you would like to review or change your account settings, communication preferences, or the details you have supplied to us, you may do so at any time using the 'My Profile' feature. If you have another query relating to your information, please contact us as set out below.
